+++ New Workshops at IC16 +++

Jun. 20, 2016

Dear all,

we are working on the final program for the IMAGINARY Conference (IC16). Newsletter subscribers will be the first to see it. If you have not yet done so, please register now for IC16 (deadline is July 1, 2016). It will help us to assign the workshops, plan child care and conference dinner.

New Workshops

We are happy to announce, there will be three more workshops offered at IC16!

  • The SURFER Book

The aim of this workshop is to create a draft version of the SURFER book. The content of the book is based on the so called SURFER experiments, which are short and creative tutorials on how to create a variety of surfaces using the SURFER program.

  • Mathematics and Music

This workshop aims to explore a specific part of the interconnectivity between mathematics and music with an artistic, musical and communicative approach. The goal is to jointly collect ideas and to create a basic concept for a generative system able to sonify mathematical models by describing requirements in terms of functionality, interactivity, design and sound.

  • HoloLens in Mathematics Communication

Microsoft HoloLens is a new augmented reality technology designed to allow us to interact with high‑definition holograms in our world. In this workshop new concepts will be explored using this technology for interactive mathematics communication. A HoloLens kit plus development technology will be on site in order to explore the possibilities of augmented reality live.

Find details to all of the offered workshops in the IC16 workshop booklet. If you already registered for IC16 and want to be part of one of the new workshops, please fill out this additional form and let us know your new choices.

Unfortunately, two of the previously announced workshops (‘Virtual Leibniz Abacus’ and ‘European Mathematics News Service’) will not take place during IC16.

The Conference Dinner

The conference dinner will take place on July 21 after the workshop session of the day. We can walk to the traditional Berlin tavern ‘Max und Moritz’ from the conference venue, which is located in an old Berlin building. It originally opened in 1902 and some of the furniture and decoration still remain from that time.

Local Information

We added some local information to the IC16 website, including possible things to visit in Berlin and Germany before or after the conference.

Before and partly parallel to IC16, there is the 7th European Congress of Mathematics, also taking place in Berlin. IMAGINARY will be part of the cultural program and present an exhibition at the conference venue

We hope to see you in Berlin soon,
the IC16 organizing committee
