2014 Uluslararası Kristalografi Yılı (IYCr2014), Birleşmiş Milletler tarafından desteklenen bir etkinliktir. X-ışını kristalografisinin keşfinin yüzüncü yılını kutlamak ve insan hayatında kristalografinin evrensel önemini vurgulamak için hayata geçirilmiştir. IYCr2014’ün ana hedeflerinden biri, kristalografi bilimine ilişkin toplumsal farkındalığı arttırmak ve özellikle gençlere bu konuda ilham vermektir.
IMAGINARY, Philatelie Liechtenstein ile işbirliği içinde bir pul serisi yaratarak bu etkinliğe dahil olmuştur. Bu seride, Bianca Violet tarafından hazırlanmış ve bir kristalin metamorfozunun sanatsal canlandırmasını sunan bir SURFER animasyonunun 13 karesi kullanılmıştır. Serideki iki pulun tasarımı HP Gassner tarafından yapılmıştır. İlk gün zarflarındaki resimler Jeff Weeks’in Crystal Flight programından ekran görüntüleridir. Ayrıca, pulları fark ederek orijinal SURFER-animasyonunu çalıştıran bir akıllı telefon uygulaması da sunulmuştur.
Dikkatinizi Mineral ve Matematik Müzesi’ne (MiMa - Oberwolfach, Almanya) de çekmek isteriz. MiMa müzesi, Kara Ormanların kendine has minerallerine evsahipliği yapmanın ve matematiksel kuramlar için sezgi sunmanın ötesinde mineraller ve matematik arasındaki bağlantıyı göstermektedir. Buradaki etkileşimli yerleştirmeler simetri ve kristalografiyi oynayarak anlamanıza fırsat verir.
IYCr2014’e katkı olarak, IMAGINARY platformunun metinler kısmında bulabileceğiniz Kristaller ve Matematik (Almanca) makalesini okuyabilirsiniz.
