The scheme for classifying these curves is described in the book “The Family Tree of Fractal Curves”. In this book, almost all of the celebrated fractal curves that we have loved since they were introduced by Mandelbrot in the 1970’s are organized in a taxonomy based on complex integers. 

The fractal curves shown here are members of the Eisenstein domain - the set of complex integers that form a triangular lattice in the complex plane.
