A special celebration of 50 years of German-Israeli diplomatic relations took place in Israel.
A high-calibre and interdisciplinary science symposium of the Weizmann Institute, the Max Planck Society and the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities has been held as part of the jubilee events in Tel Aviv and Rehovot.
German Federal Research Minister Johanna Wanka is the first top government official to visit Israel in this jubilee year to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The speakers covered a range of subjects in science and the humanities. IMAGINARY was represented by scientific advisor Gert-Martin Greuel.
The Weizmann Institute is a fitting venue for this celebration. It has the oldest ties to Germany’s research sector – going back to 1959, when the first contacts were established between Israeli and German scientists through the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, leading to the opening of diplomatic ties. Today, The Weizmann Institute and German scientists carry out more than 90 projects every year, in bilateral and EU frameworks.
