The Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach celebrates 75 years
Jun. 19, 2019

IMAGINARY grew up at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO). From 2007 to 2016, we were part of the institute, and even now, we have a very strong bond. Since 2016, IMAGINARY is a non-profit organization, and the MFO is a shareholder of IMAGINARY.

We congratulate to 75 years of MFO - happy Anniversary!

Numerous guests from science, politics and economy are invited to the festive event on 5 July. The Minister of Science, Research and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg, Theresia Bauer, has also announced her participation.

For many decades, the MFO has been a globally well recognized institute. Here, in the middle of the Black Forest, the leading experts of all mathematical fields regularly meet to discuss recent developments with others and to generate new ideas. Over 2500 research guests from all over the world visit the institute each year.

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the MFO has invited two outstanding mathematicians to give a festive lecture: Prof. Dr. Cédric Villani and Prof. Dr. Stefan Müller. In addition, representatives of related institutions and authorities will address greetings to the MFO: Theresia Bauer (Ministry for Science, Research and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg), Dr. Michael Meister (Federal Ministry for Education and Science), Prof. Dr. Albert Sickmann (Leibniz Association), Prof. Dr. Friedrich Götze (Gesellschaft für Mathematische Forschung), Dr. Wilhelm Krull (Volkswagen Foundation), Beate Spiegel (Klaus Tschira Foundation) and Dr.  Detlef Schneidawind (Oberwolfach Foundation).

Today, February 7th 2018, is called e-day, because e is approximately 2.718, and this date is written 2/7/18 in some parts of the world. We prepared a toy-site listing the first 60.000 digits of e and help you find your birthday in it! We can even find your name within the digits of e, along with the complete works of William Shakespeare, the ending of Game of Thrones (spoiler alert), the full text of the Wikipedia from the year 2030 or what you’ll have tomorrow for breakfast…Read more
