We host an open call for exhibits until July 31, 2018. More information on the call’s webpage or via soundofmath@imaginary.org.
IMAGINARY is preparing a new exhibition about the fascinating relationship between mathematics and music projected to be unveiled at the MAINS (Mathematics and Informatics Station) in Heidelberg. Presented by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation the show is scheduled to open in spring 2019.
Can one hear numbers? Is the universe a gifted composer? And how musical are robots actually? In preparing an exhibition about mathematics and music, IMAGINARY follows these and other questions. Proven in a number of journal articles, books, videos and presentations
it is nowadays well-known that there is a lot of mathematics in music: in rhythm, tunes and beats. With the planned exhibition we aim to break new ground. By connecting music with modern mathematics and its applications in artificial intelligence, big data or neuroscience, we are going to show the linkage of both disciplines. Installations, interactive exhibits and physical experiences will offer visitors extraordinary access to music’s mathematical aesthetics.
The exhibition will be presented by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF), who created MAINS, a special event and exhibition venue dedicated to mathematics and informatics. The former showroom of the “Heidelberger Druckmaschinen” offers plenty of space to raise public awareness of the disciplines’ importance for society.
Also, in line with IMAGINARY’s open source philosophy we will involve the community of mathematic lovers worldwide, in the development of this exhibition. We therefore invite all interested in submitting their ideas for exhibits, (such as images, interactive games or art installations, that display mathematics’ connection to music) to do so until 31st July 2018. Please find further information on the open call here.
