10MM-Workshop @ 9th Heidelberg Laureate Forum
event
15:30 - 17:00
At the 9th edition of the HLF IMAGINARY gives the workshop “Mathematical modeling with a mini-museum on climate crisis”
Climate is a complex system, with many factors playing together. We use different mathematical models to explore those relationships and the dynamics of climate. This helps us to understand the world and the effects of human action and to decide how to act in consequence.
The 10-minute museum on the mathematics of climate crisis (10MM) is a compact and mobile exhibition to present this field to the general public. In our 90-minute workshop, we will first present a summary of all contents of the 10MM, and we will then jointly dive deep into some of the models we present and interactively explore the mathematical techniques used therein.
Overview of the presentation:
- The complexity of climate.
- Mathematical modeling and its goals.
- The role of data
- Box models in detail (creating your own models)
- Tipping points
- Unexpected consequences
- The scientific community
The workshop is conducted by Dr. Daniel Ramos of IMAGINARY.
