The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation invites you from July 20 to August 10, 2014, in the train station Heidelberg Altstadt, to cast a glance at mathematical creations “with the eyes of mathematics” in a way you might have never done before.
The exhibits belong to geometry, which is only one of many mathematical fields (albeit an important one) .
The exhibition visits Heidelberg for the first time and promises to be an exciting and varied experience for younger and older visitors alike.

 IMAGINARY in Heidelberg

The exhibition in Heidelberg consists of four sections: a gallery of fascinating mathematical images, some interactive installations that allow visitors to experiment with math art, a display case with 3D sculptures of algebraic surfaces, and several experimental stations designed to explore and understand mathematical phenomena.

The IMAGINARY cube

The IMAGINARY cube is a walk-in cube that exhibits mathematical images. Most of them are of fascinating algebraic surfaces, which are at the same time beautiful images and mathematical objects.
All pictures are in acrylic and equipped with information panels that explain how the displayed surfaces arise and what mathematical properties they exhibit.

Interactive programs

The main attraction of the IMAGINARY exhibition are the interactive programs and installations, which invite you to become creative yourself.

Surfaces and sculptures

The exhibition features ten 3D sculptures of algebraic surfaces, made using 3D printing technology (melting of plastic powder) and so-called stereolithiography.

Experimental stations

Several experimental stations invite you to unravel mathematical phenomena by trying your own hand at them.

All experimental stations are loans from phaeno, Wolfsburg.

Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation

The exhibition is organized by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF).

In 2013, the Klaus Tschira foundation founded the HLFF. The HLFF organized the annual Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), where selected young scientists in the areas of mathematics and informatics meet the most significant scientists of both fields. Last year, the HLF celebrated its successful premier. It will be held annually in the last week of september in Heidelberg.

A further focus of the foundation HLFF is on raising public awareness for mathematics and computer science, as well as on sparking and sustainably increasing interest in those two disciplines.
