MathLapse – Moiré Patterns
The video is a composition in black and white, playing a creative game with the limited pixel resolution of electronic displays.
Concentric circles appear. The distance between the circles is continuously diminished. When the distance between the circles falls below the pixel distance, the circles vanish. Instead completely new and exciting so-called Moiré patterns appear which change very fast producing thousands of variants. After some time, the patterns become more and more chaotic, until they mutate into an almost uniform grey area. Nevertheless, even after a long time single pictures appear in between the chaotic stream, where distinct patterns can be recognized.
